This research article analyzes the impact of unemployment on the living conditions of families in Llacao, located in Cuenca, by examining the relationship between limited employment opportunities and increasing socioeconomic vulnerability. Unemployment and insufficient income constitute key factors contributing progressively to household poverty, particularly affecting rural populations where access to employment opportunities is more restricted.
The objective of this research was to examine how unemployment influences the deterioration of family living conditions and the coping strategies adopted by households to face income reduction, including the prioritization of basic needs over education, health care, and adequate food consumption.
A quantitative research approach was employed through the application of surveys administered to families within the study area. The findings revealed that approximately half of the participants had only completed secondary education, limiting their professional specialization and access to formal employment. Additionally, due to unemployment, many families reported reducing essential expenses and, in some cases, resorting to loans to meet basic needs, highlighting the scarcity of job opportunities in the local context.
The study concludes that unemployment significantly restricts access to basic services and increases household economic vulnerability. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening local public policies aimed at employment generation, vocational training, and social support for vulnerable populations.
