Analyzing the importance of implementing reading habits in teacher professional development

This article analyzes the impact of reading on teacher performance and professional development within the current work environment. It addresses the importance of teachers developing reading habits to clearly transmit knowledge to their students and foster a love of reading in them.The objective of this research is to identify the importance of reading habits for teacher professional development, as they contribute to the acquisition of communication skills, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities when planning and delivering lessons.The methodology employed in this research included the scientific method, the deductive method, the analytical method, and the statistical method.Data collection took place in the city of Cuenca, using a survey administered to 20 teachers from the Comil 4 Armed Forces Educational Unit. The results showed that the teachers possess various reading strategies, such as underlining key ideas and then using them to create graphic organizers. Furthermore, it is important to emphasize the proposal arising from this research, which is the implementation of reading spaces with a variety of linguistic materials such as novels, newspapers, and others that encourage teachers and students to feel motivated to engage in this activity.It is concluded that reading is an indispensable tool for the professional development of teachers, making it an important foundation for all activities carried out inside and outside the classroom. Likewise, the application of reading habits by teachers leads to significant advantages that encompass the expansion of their minds, such as improved creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary, and even the refinement of communication skills.
